Project: Volvo Trucks - Load Finder
Roster Talent: SweetSpot & Lazhar
Client: Stark / Volvo Trucks US
When the internal post-production department at Stark reached full capacity, they turned to SweetSpot to deliver a comprehensive motion graphics package for Volvo Trucks US. The film focused on the Load Finder app, a tool designed to help truck drivers maximize their efficiency and profitability. The brief required the creation of 20 distinct text animations, several detailed interface sequences, and a screen replacement for an iPad. With a strict eight-day delivery window, the project demanded a streamlined workflow that could move from concept to final 4K delivery without the overhead of a big studio engagement.
The project required 20 individual text animations, each needing a unique "semantic" motion style to match the script’s messaging.
SweetSpot handled the creative direction and execution in-house. Following the vision of director Niclas Corn, we developed motion metaphors where the text behavior reflected the copy, such as the word "speed" flying in rapidly, the word "options" multiplying on screen, and so on. This direct involvement ensured a tight feedback loop and allowed the project to stay within budget and on time, while maintaining premium quality.
The provided source material for the Load Finder app consisted of static screenshots that lacked the resolution and layer depth required for high-fidelity 4K animation.
We rebuilt the entire app interface as vector assets. This allowed for total control over every button, text field, and icon. By creating a fully animatable UI, we were able to execute smooth camera pans, interactive cursor clicks, and deep zooms, including a detailed map sequence illustrating efficient route planning, all while maintaining razor-sharp clarity.
One specific shot featured an iPad with natural reflections and fingers moving across the screen with significant motion blur, making a standard "paste-in" insert look artificial.
SweetSpot tapped Lazhar from our roster for this specialized task. By focusing on the intricate rotoscoping of the fingers and the subtle blending of environmental reflections, the screen insert was delivered with zero feedback, seamlessly integrating the digital app into the physical world.
Seamless Resource Extension: SweetSpot acted as a friction-less extension of Stark’s team, stepping in when their internal department was overbooked and delivering a "zero-feedback" result on the primary animation sequences.
Technical Precision for Global Standards: By reconstructing the UI from the ground up, we provided Volvo Trucks US with 4K-native assets that met the high visual standards of their global brand communications.
Agile Problem Solving: The hybrid approach - handling the bulk of the motion design in-house while utilizing roster specialists for complex compositing - allowed for a fast, efficient delivery that met every deadline and budget requirement.
